TOOL Guitarist Has Eye For Great Visuals
May 24, 2006Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL is acclaimed almost as much for its album packages, artwork and music videos as its music, and its latest album, "10,000 Days", is possibly the band's most lavishly designed CD yet. Much of the band's imagery is conceived and supervised by guitarist Adam Jones, who told Launch his interest in visuals started even before TOOL. "I've always been into art and drawing and sculpting, and I did makeup effects for a long time, and it's always been a big part of my life," he said. "And Maynard too, and, you know, the other band members — you know, when I met those guys, they were all doing something kind of creative, and I think that's why it clicks."
"10,000 Days" includes 3-D artwork and photos in the CD package, along with a built-in set of stereoptic lenses to view them through.
The album, TOOL's fourth, debuted at Number One on The Billboard 200 two weeks ago.
TOOL completed a North American mini-tour last weekend and begins a European jaunt this Friday (May 26). The group plans to return for a larger U.S. tour this fall.
The band has already been confirmed to headline the 22nd annual San Diego Street Scene festival, scheduled for August 4-5 in downtown San Diego. Other acts slated to appear include KANYE WEST, A.F.I., MODEST MOUSE, THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, WU TANG CLAN, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, YELLOWCARD, SHE WANTS REVENGE, ROCK KILLS KID and others to be announced.
